Comparing Gua Sha Suppliers: A Scorecard for Volume Buyers

A practical scorecard for comparing gua sha suppliers: manufacturing depth, MOQ structure, quality systems, documentation, communication and repeat-order reliability.

Most gua sha supplier comparisons come down to one page of prices and a feeling. That is a poor basis for a supply relationship that will run for years. This scorecard replaces the feeling with six dimensions you can actually check - so quotes from three or four suppliers can be compared on the same scale, and the cheapest quote stops being automatically the winner.

The Six Dimensions

1. Manufacturing Depth

Repeat-order reliability: stock and production records kept on file between orders.

Does the supplier make the product, or buy it and resell it? Ask directly, and ask follow-up questions that only a real factory can answer: which production step is done in-house, what equipment runs it, how a batch is inspected. A trading company quotes fine; it just cannot control tooling, and that is what decides whether a custom shape slips.
  • Score high if: production, polishing and marking are in-house and can be described step by step.
  • Score low if: answers stay at the sales level, or "our factory" is never named or shown.

2. MOQ Structure

A single MOQ number is less useful than a structure. What matters is the tier table: what does the minimum look like for a stock shape with a logo, for a custom shape by material, and for printed packaging? A supplier who publishes the real tiers lets you plan; a supplier whose "200 pieces" turns into 3,000 after a call wastes your time.
  • Score high if: minimums are stated per material and per customisation level, with tooling costs explained.
  • Score low if: the minimum changes as the conversation goes on, or tooling costs surface only after you commit.

3. Quality System

Inspection is a system, not a promise. Ask how many inspections a shipment passes, at which stages, and what happens when a piece fails. The answer should describe checkpoints and a signed reference sample both sides hold - not adjectives.
  • Score high if: inspections are at defined stages, defects are handled against a signed limit sample, records exist per batch.
  • Score low if: "100% quality guaranteed" is the whole answer.

4. Documentation

For any regulated market you need material safety documentation - CE, RoHS, REACH or Prop 65 depending on destination - and for international shipping, the standard export document set. A supplier who can send these before you ask saves weeks later.
  • Score high if: test reports and export documents are produced on request and match the materials quoted.
  • Score low if: documents are "available later" or the supplier is vague about which standard applies where.

5. Communication

In-house marking - one of the process questions a real factory can answer in detail.

Run a live test before you commit: send one precise technical question in the RFQ stage - edge radius, laser depth, tolerance - and watch how the answer comes back. Accuracy and speed at quotation stage are what production communication will look like.
  • Score high if: your technical question came back answered, in detail, with a drawing where needed.
  • Score low if: the question was deflected to "our engineer will confirm" and never came back.

6. Repeat-Order Reliability

The batch after the first is the one that proves the supplier. Ask what the supplier keeps on file between orders: specification, sample reference, tooling records. A supplier who can re-quote a repeat from a file is a supply partner; one who asks you to re-specify everything is a one-off transaction.
  • Score high if: specification, sample and production notes are kept on file and the reorder is quoted from them.
  • Score low if: every order feels like the first one.

How to Score

Score each supplier 1-5 on the six dimensions and weight them for your situation - a distributor cares most about repeat reliability and documentation, a first-time brand cares most about MOQ structure and communication. The point is not the total, it is the two lowest scores: they are where the relationship will hurt.

Supplier Comparison FAQ

Should I always choose the lowest price? No. Compare the total project: a lower unit price with hidden tooling, weak inspection or poor repeat consistency costs more over a year than a stated, structured quote. Score the six dimensions and use price as one input, not the decision.
How do I verify a supplier is a real factory? Ask process questions only production people can answer, request the certification documents for the materials you are buying, and start with a sample order. A factory answers with specifics; a reseller answers with adjectives.
What should the first order prove? Three things: the sample matches production, packaging arrives as specified, and the supplier hits the delivery window. If the first order passes those, order two is the real test of repeat consistency.
